HARRIS CORP vs MOTOROLA
ENABLED BY TOM:
Harris Corp. vs Motorola
Wayne Duff, an area sales manager with Harris Corporation’s RF Communications division, credits Tom Byrnes as the difference maker and key factor in Harris Corps.’s successful 2013 bid to win a $19 million Spotsylvania, VA contract to build the county’s state-of-the-art public safety communications system, saying:
“Without question, Tom made it happen.”
Harris Corp. and Motorola, the nation’s two largest suppliers of public safety communications systems and radios, responded to the county’s request for proposals (RFP) and competed for the contract for over two years before Tom helped Harris win the multi-million dollar contract.
When the initiative began, during the election for sheriff in the county, the then Spotsylvania Sheriff was in favor of the Motorola proposal; Byrnes provided strategic consultation to the then-candidate who supported and saw the advantages of the Harris proposal — the candidate Byrnes represented became Sheriff and the county board of supervisors were thus engendered with the support needed to provide the county with the best, most advanced public safety communications system available.
